Reception Class February 2015
Business Enterprise Week
Thank you to everyone who came after school to support our Business Enterprise Week. The Lower Foundation in total raised a huge £226.00 (clear profit)!
The children began the week by choosing a company name, which was Makers and Sellers. Then the hard work began making our hanging hearts. Thank you to the Mums and Grans who came in to help. We wrote invitations to our Mums and Dads and used coins to pay for the materials in Numeracy. Thank you to the three stall holders who sold the hearts after school. After Mrs Edwards counted the money we choose what to spend our profits on. We choose two scooters, two helmets and some of the money raised contributed towards an iPad mini. We can't wait for our new resources!
Our new sounds this half term have been j, v, w, y, x, z, zz, qu, ch and sh. We are now reading lots of words with up to four sounds in, sometimes words with five sounds!
A big thank you to FODS who have added to our new Floppy's Phonics Reading Scheme with £700 of new books. Thank you so much.
Our new tricky words are:- than, this, can, mum, dad, went, with, us, his, her and pull.
On Tuesday 3rd March for four weeks the Reception class will take part in Forest School in the afternoon, the last session will be on a Wednesday afternoon. The children will need to bring a change of warm clothing that you don't mind getting a bit muddy. They can use their wellies which are kept in school (please make sure they have a pair in school) and school's waterproof clothing as an outerlayer. Gloves and hats will be essential. We will be having lots of fun participating in outdoor activities and the children are looking forward to hot choclate and marshmallows!
The Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe
We had a wonderful trip to Theatr Clwyd to watch and take part in The Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe. The children were totally engrossed in the performance and enjoyed participating in the play. A lovely afternoon was had by all.
A Message From Cutie
Thank you for looking after me so well at the weekends.
We love Cutie and we really enjoy reading about what she has been up to at the weekends.
Our Next Topic
Our topic next half term will be Fairy tales and we will be celebrating St David's Day with our class competitions. We will focus on The Three Billy Goats Gruff and we will be learning the story with special actions to help our story telling. We will then have a go writing the story! We are making great progress with our Numeracy targets but we have found counting backwards from 20 a bit tricky. Extra help with this skill will help us reach our target quickly. Also as mentioned above, we will be taking part in Forest School.
